The Past is a film with many layers – secrets are spilled and shocking revelations are discovered.

Iranian director Asghar Farhadi’s much anticipated follow up to his Oscar winning film A Separation is filled to the brim with the mystery and twists you might expect from a classic ‚Äòwhodunnit’. However at its core, the film remains a solid and intriguing relationship drama, and is sure to draw you in.

After a four year separation, Ahmad (Ali Mossafa) returns to Paris from Tehran at his estranged French wife Marie’s request, in order to finalise their divorce. The troubled Marie is depicted tenderly by Bérénice Bejo, best known for her turn as the silent-movie flapper in The Artist. During his brief stay, Ahmad discovers the conflicting nature of Marie’s relationship with her daughter Lucie. Ahmad’s efforts to improve this relationship soon unveil a secret that has tremendous repercussions for the future of the already disjointed family.

This thoughtful and resonant drama is a tense and emotional ride that will keep you guessing until the final frame.

The Past is in theatres nationally from Thursday 6 February. To celebrate, we have 25 double in-season passes to give away for use at participating cinemas.

To enter simply fill in the form below and tell us in 25 words or less why you would like to see The Past?

Competition closes 12pm Friday 24 January.
